Event announcement: Hybrid colloquium organised by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt Braunschweig and Berlin

presenting by: Prof. Dr. Dr. Svenja Caspers,  direktor institut of  anatomy (HHUDüsseldorf) & Head of the Connectivity Working Group (Jülich Research Centre)

Dementia disorders rank among the greatest medical and socioeconomic challenges of our aging society. In the absence of curative therapies, preventative measures are increasingly shifting into focus: recent studies indicate that up to 45 percent of all dementia cases could be prevented through risk factor modification and intervention. However, the primary obstacle remains that individual brains age differently. This complex, lifestyle-dependent interplay of genetic and environmental factors cannot be effectively captured by generalized health recommendations.

This presentation demonstrates how medical physics and artificial intelligence (AI) enable a paradigm shift towards personalized, data-driven prevention. Utilizing multivariate approaches in large-scale, population-based cohorts comprising tens of thousands of subjects, structural and functional alterations of aging brain networks are deciphered. A promising new frontier for personalizing general findings of brain aging lies in the concept of "digital brain twins". By linking personal health data with biophysical models, a virtual models of individual brains are generated. This framework allows for the computational simulation of individual consequences of local network disturbances in relation to individual cognitive trajectories.

In line with the current initiatives of the National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), this contribution describes the transition from broad public health prevention towards highly effective, individualized prevention strategies.
