Exploring the Future of Bone Models: GRK 2901 SYLOBIO & CRC 1270 ELAINE Colloquium

At the joint colloquium of GRK 2901 SYLOBIO and IRTG of CRC 1270 ELAINE on March 5, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Dr. Anne Bernhardt (TU Dresden) presented a lecture: “In vitro bone models based on primary human cells – challenges and potential.”

The talk showcased the development of in vitro bone models incorporating osteoblasts, osteoclasts, osteocytes, and endothelial cells for vascularization, highlighting the creation of quadruple-culture models with stable expression of all cell-specific markers. It is an excellent example of the synergies that can emerge from collaboration between research groups and interdisciplinary projects, advancing drug development and regenerative medicine.

Approximately 50 participants attended, engaging in lively discussions about the challenges of mimicking native bone tissue in vitro.

The lecture took place in the lecture hall at the Orthopedic Clinic and Polyclinic at the University Medical Center Rostock (Hörsaal, Orthopädische Klinik und Poliklinik, Universitätsmedizin Rostock).

A special thanks to Dr. Anne Bernhardt for the exciting and insightful lecture!
