Modulating Brain Networks: Mechanisms, Models & Medical Translation

CRC/SFB 1270 ELAINE Symposium

Celebrating more than 30 years of collaborative work, Prof. Rüdiger Köhling cordially invites colleagues, collaborators and early-career researchers to the CRC/SFB 1270 ELAINE Symposium “Modulating Brain Networks: Mechanisms, Models & Medical Translation”, taking place on 24–25 September 2026 in Rostock, Germany.

The symposium brings together leading experimentalists, clinicians, engineers and theoreticians to discuss how brain networks can be understood, modeled, and therapeutically modulated across scales and disease contexts. A particular focus lies on translational approaches linking fundamental mechanisms to clinical applications, including deep brain stimulation, closed-loop therapies, network biomarkers, and computational modeling.

The meeting will open on Thursday evening with welcome addresses by Prof. Elizabeth Prommer (Rector of the University of Rostock) and Prof. Bernd Krause (Dean of the Medical Faculty), followed by a keynote lecture by Prof. Andreas Draguhn (Heidelberg) on intrinsic oscillations and the control of brain networks.

The full-day program on Friday features thematic sessions on:

ELAINE platforms for network modulation, spanning electrophysiological biomarkers, micro-implants, disease models, and DBS modeling,

Network modulation in neurological and neuropsychiatric diseases, including stroke, synucleinopathies, epilepsy, and SUDEP,

Levers of network modulation, highlighting GABAergic mechanisms, interneuron microcircuits, stimulation strategies, and personalized closed-loop therapies.

With contributions from internationally renowned speakers across neuroscience, medicine, and engineering, the symposium aims to foster interdisciplinary exchange and to identify future directions for mechanistically informed and clinically relevant brain network modulation.

We warmly welcome researchers, clinicians, and early-career scientists interested in brain networks, neuromodulation, and translational neuroscience.

We look forward to welcoming you to Rostock in September 2026.
